The Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB) and the Niagara SPCA are partnering with the Niagara Pet Expo this June 15th & 16th at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls. By appointment, your dog can donate blood that will be used at veterinary hospitals across Canada to help dogs in desperate need due to surgery, illness, or traumatic injury. Candidate dogs must be between 1 and 8 years old, current on vaccinations, of good temperament, over 55 pounds, and healthy. The CABB will require information from your current veterinarian.
The Niagara SPCA, formed in 2018 by the amalgamation of the Welland SPCA and Niagara Falls Humane Society, will also be offering microchip implants for dogs and cats at a cost of $25 the same day from 11am to 4pm at the Expo. There is no need to book an appointment for microchipping. A microchip implant is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected just under the skin. When scanned by a microchip scanner, the numeric code is presented on the scanner. This code is linked to the owners identifying information with the microchip company. It is not a GPS tracking device. The SPCA reminds pet owners to update this chip information when they move or change phone numbers by calling the microchip company.

Be sure to include the family pets at the NPE. Whether your pet family member crawls, slithers, hops, walks or swims, bring them along to enjoy the festivities. Just remember to bring a signed waiver with you.
In the best interest of our pet enthusiasts and exhibitors, the 2020 Niagara Pet Expo has been postponed until further notice.
Our team will be reaching out to all exhibitors in the coming days for clarity and discussions. Those who purchased passes online will be contacted by our team with instructions.
During these extraordinary times we wish all families and their family pet members the very best in health.
